Sandpoint Sharks compete at SWAT Spring Fling
SPOKANE — Seventeen Sandpoint Sharks swam at the SWAT Spring Fling meet held Saturday, April 26, through Sunday, April 27, at the Whitworth University Aquatic Center.
8-year-old Kate Bracht led the way, garnering nine gold medals and one silver over the weekend. She swam to a new personal best in every single event and was the high point winner for the girls 8-and-under age division.
Charlie Johnson (10) added one gold and two bronze while Charley-Rain Olpin (11) secured a silver and five bronze. Bodi Demmons (14) rounded out the meet with four bronze of his own.
Competing in their first ever short course meet for the Sharks were Presley Ukich, Fiona Naples, McKinley Hull, Olivia Bowen and Cora Bentley.
Coaches Emily Renzini and Sophie Britzmann said it was a great turnout to begin the post-championship season and the majority of their athletes put up personal best times.
“I’m just so proud of our swimmers for competing at this meet after a little bit of a break since champs," Renzini said. "They swam fast and gained new personal records. It’s not easy, so I’m very happy for all our Shark swimmers."
