| May 29, 2025 1:00 AM

SANDPOINT — The Matsiko World Orphan Choir will perform in Sandpoint from May 29-June 1 as part of their U.S. tour.

The choir, composed of orphaned and at-risk children from around the world, aims to empower vulnerable children through music and education.

Disneyland has recognized the group as "Our World's Treasure," and former U.S. Rep. David Reichert called them "the greatest ambassadors for our world's 600 million orphaned and at-risk children."

The choir has performed at NFL, NBA, MLS and Rose Bowl stadiums, as well as corporate events for Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard and Google's World Conference. They have performed at the White House under three administrations and appeared on television, radio and in print media.

The performances feature traditional African songs, contemporary melodies, dance and stories of overcoming adversity.

Matsiko's mission is to enroll 10,000 of the world's neediest children in schools. Proceeds from performances support this educational initiative.

All events are free and open to the public.

The choir will perform today, May 29 at 6 p.m. at Talus Rock Retreat and Saturday, May 31, from 7-8:30 p.m. at First Lutheran Church. On Sunday, June 1, they will perform during the 8, 9:30 and 11 a.m. services at Cedar Hills Church and conclude with a 2 p.m. performance at Cedar Street Bridge.
