Support of employee is simply outrageous

I was appalled as I read the paper Tuesday morning and learned that a convicted and registered sex offender is working in an environment where quite a few children hang out. Why the heck did Mr. Gunter hire Ms. Lutes, and how could he defend such a pervert? Who are these professionals that Mr. Gunter refers to? Now that Ms. Lutes has access to all of your child's personal information, she is probably in candyland. All at taxpayers' expense!

ITD needs to 'get 'er done' on Sand Creek Byway

I have listened to the arguments for and against the Sand Creek Byway for some 50 of the 53 years of my residency in Bonner County. Liz Sedler's letter to the editor (Nov. 6, 2005), "Byway will do nothing to solve traffic problems" sums up three major points against the bypass. Some conclusions are evident.

Bonner County prosecutor failed county's residents

It was a sad day when our Bonner County prosecutor failed in his duty to check out the false allegations against Sig Jensen before he called for a public trial. Title 19 section 1306 demands a thorough investigation before he can present an information, which is a poor substitute for a grand jury decision. This one-man decision to prosecute is inferior to a decision by 12 members of a grand jury. Unfortunately Idaho's Constitution (Article 1, Section 8) permits this inferior information process. The advantage of a grand jury investigation is secrecy, protecting the character of one falsely accused from being slandered by unfounded accusations, and saves him unnecessary attorney fees. If the prosecutor had investigated the charges, he whould have discovered the motive for the false accusations and protected Mr. Jensen's reputation.

I want to thank those associated with the Sandpoint High School for the beautiful Veteran's Day service conducted on Nov. 8. The annual program is open to the public and a credit to the community. They have until Nov. 30 of this year to reach their goal or the city will tear the courts down, leaving Sandpoint with only six public courts. With the rise of youth and adult leagues in Sandpoint, six courts isn't nearly enough to accommodate area players.
