Post Falls sweeps Sandpoint meet

SANDPOINT — Seth Hyde broke the Post Falls school record in the 400 meters with a time of 50.4 seconds, eclipsing a mark that had stood since 1971, as Post Falls won both the boys' and girls' titles at the Sandpoint Invitational on Tuesday afternoon. Nick Mehalechko won the 100 and 200 meter sprints and Angie Whalen won the 800 and 1600 meter runs as the Trojans depth was key in the wins.

sGet involved with your children, skatepark

The Sandpoint public skatepark is a great asset to our community and every person and business that helped make it happen should be congratulated. The park gets as much use (or more) than any other park in town and the kids love it, but the park is not a day care center and parents need to be involved. It is common to see 30-50 kids at the park with no adult/parental supervision. Only a very small percentage of these kids wear helmets or any type of protective gear, which is far less expensive than a hospital bill.

I believe that we should thank the council members who are reviewing our police department! Thank you for helping tell Holocaust survivors' stories

I would like to express my thanks to my friend Mike Couch and the staff of First Christian Church for inviting us to come and speak to their youth group about the Holocaust. It is a difficult topic to discuss and this was the first time we shared Dad's story with the public. His testimony to Stephen Spielberg's Shoah Foundation resulted in a four-hour video account. Those of us who have watched it find it difficult to turn off the tape once it starts. Our hat is off to Kyle Bostock of First Christian who edited the tape down to 35 minutes. Dad's harrowing survival experiences are etched in his memory; his crystalline recall of events created a compelling story and we didn't know if we could cut out material without detracting from the story. Kyle was up to the task and the edited tape was no less riveting than the unabridged one. Kyle and Mike worked hard to create a first rate visual experience.

Tabloid journalism

The story on the hard-working local mom who had a run in with the local authorities was a disgrace. This woman's contributions to the city of Sandpoint over the last nine years is imeasureable. To have an article published locally that senationalizes a misdemeanor is cruel and unwarranted. This is a small town, mutually forgiving of its inhabitants' less-than-saintly behaivor. Mr. Kinnard, many of us have bones in our closets we would rather not want made public. That's why we came here. I must assume you have not sinned since you are so ready to throw rocks. In the words of an old mentor "They only made one of perfect, and they crucified him." Mr. Kinnard, give people a break and save the yellow journalism for the grocery checkout.
