Obama will lead us blindly off a cliff
The media focuses on an anti-Islam video as the “reason” for the attacks against American embassies in the Middle East. A few years ago a cartoon of Mohammed with a bomb in his turban set off riots and death threats. Salman Rushdie wrote a book about Islam, and he and his family had to go into hiding to keep from being murdered by Muslims. More Muslims have died at the hands of other Muslims than from any other peoples — and yet, Barack Obama continues to speak of Islam as “a religion of peace,” and apologizes to them for America. Let's teach children compassion for all
I read with sadness the 2012 Bonner County Market Animal Sale results published in the Sept. 5 Daily Bee. While some of those animals may have been purchased for breeding purposes, most will be slaughtered and eaten. Our 4-H kids and those children at the supper tables at which these animals are served will have been taught that these beings are ours to kill. These same children, no doubt, will have been taught to love and to responsibly care for pet animals. How can it be morally correct to both love one’s dog and to eat one’s pig or one’s lamb or one’s calf? Why do some parents set out sunflower seeds for sparrows and then serve chickens for dinner?

Local option tax will drive away shoppers
In midst of the worst economic conditions in 70 years, 8.5-percent county unemployment, faltering recovery from longest, worst recession since Great Depression, it’s ludicrous to propose that additional sales taxes would be considered to fund mostly non-essential projects. Further, local option sales tax is thinly-veiled attempt to saddle county residents living outside Sandpoint and Ponderay, shopping there for necessities, with costs of projects of no benefit to them, they will probably never use, without ability to vote.

Idaho doesn't need Rock Creek Mine
Will the proposed Rock Creek mine pollute the Clark Fork River? The mining company would like you to believe that it won’t. In reality, the Rock Creek mine requires a permit to pollute. The water that is discharged from the mine, even after treatment, will not meet minimum water quality standards and it will contain metals. All of that will end up in Lake Pend Oreille.
Inter-fund transfers hurt county, taxpayers
On Aug. 30, the Daily Bee reported that I am challenging the county’s right to use inter-fund transfers to pay for the courthouse remodel. Several bloggers oppose my challenge and, one in particular, captured the essence of their concerns as follows: “It seems to me that a system that allows surplus funds to go untouched, while important operations are starved for cash, is a problem. If the transfers were illegal, they shouldn’t be, unless the funds are earmarked for specific use.”
Tea party, not Obama, to blame for economy
The Bee should be castigated for publishing diatribes full of hate such as the letter that appeared on Aug. 21. The writer attempts to smear the president with accusations of associating with a communist, an America-hating racist and a domestic terrorist. Obama is described as “a president who hates America.” And of course, Obama is blamed for being “bent on dismantling our successful capitalist system.”

Group announces political forum
There is a saying that people get the government they deserve. People on both sides of our perceived path for America, complain about how our country is being governed. But most make no effort in directing our politicians. I believe there is more work, frustration, and disappointments being an elected official than we mere citizens understand. No politician can please everyone, or in fact please anyone all of the time. Most politicians attempt to appease their constituents. However, this requires that we, the constituents, educate ourselves. This can only be accomplished by our involvement, and requires we read, listen, discuss, and participate by making our elected officials aware of what we expect their voting records to reflect. During the political forums in our latest primary, I observed that it was the same people attending every event. How was everyone else getting their information? I found many people vote for the most advertised name. That’s simply the power of advertisement. The more money, the more signs and advertisement, and yet we complain about the money spent on campaigns.
Promised change wasn't for the better
Mr. Obama and the Democrats were given control the last election, because the people wanted a change. Unfortunately it wasn’t a change for the better. Obamacare was passed by the Democrats, against overwhelming opposition by the people. Obamacare does nothing to control the escalating health care costs and was ruled a tax by the Supreme Court. It’ll be an ever increasing tax to keep up with rising health care costs. The taxpayers desperately need to have this abomination completely repealed.
