Support schools with a 'yes' vote
As well-intentioned as they are, our legislative body in Boise still defies the court order to “adequately fund the public schools of Idaho.” Financing the local schools falls on the shoulders of local citizens. This is not new. If the money comes from Boise it is because Boise took it from us to begin with. Boise sends it back to us after they take a chunk out for so-called administrative costs. Let’s keep our money here.

Let's talk about "Rude"
I'm a "True Local" and darn proud of it. I am well educated as a professional, I served my country via the military for many years, and first and foremost, I grew up in Sandpoint. Does just groing up in Sandpoint make you a true local. No it does not. You have to have a family tree that goes back at least 2 or 3 generations. You must poses pictures of your family from many years back showing this beautiful town in its infancy. The true locals know what I'm talking about because we have seen the horrific changes brought about in this city because of all the Californians and Easterners that have flocked to this beautiful little town and turned it into a piece of trash. I was at Safeway about 3 months ago standing in line at the customer service counter. I had been waiting for about 5 minutes or so. The lady in front of me was from California and she was talking to a friend of hers that was also from California (that was not in line). The lady that was not in line pushed herself in front of me and I asked her to get in the back of the line. She instantly got upset and said that the people up here were supposed to be really nice. I said that we are nice people, however we are a people that do not tolerate 'RUDE". She glared at me and walked away and told her friend that was in front of me that she was going to another line were people are nicer. I just laughed and smiled at her and that even made her more angry. I have worked hard all my life, my mother, her mother and father, and so on worked off this land back in the good old days when people knew everybody else. Back in the good old days when everyone were nice to each other. Yes, we are a very nice people but not to the point that we will allow these so called "transplant locals" to walk on us and be rude to us just because they might have a job in which makes them more money than the average person, or a expensive car, or their big house on the lake. These things don't mean anything to the "true locals", so don't even think about pushing these things into our faces. We will just respond by laughing or smiling at you. We do this because we feel sorry for you. I think we should start re- making an old bumper sticker. It was quite popular back in the 1970s. It said "Have a nice trip back to California". It had a little smiley face on it. My advice to the new people just moving to Sandpoint is this. Respect the city, Respect the true locals, and first and foremost, don't even try to bring California with you or your far left California political view points. We have a great place to live here and we don't want another California here in Idaho. Don't be "RUDE".

We can't afford to lose what the levy supports
I am writing in support of the upcoming school levy.
Levy absolutely vital to maintain services
From my perspective as a grandparent of current students in the Lake Pend Oreille School District, I fully support the levy vote coming up in March.
'Resistance is futile' as change marches on
In reference to Michael Hoskinson’s letter (Daily Bee, Feb. 7), he charges that liberal California transplants are “agitating for change” and must be stopped. He said the destruction of freedom and the beginning of “collectivism” begins with benign questions such as, “You want safer streets, don’t you?”
Jazz for Cats 2 was a 'purrfect' success

Our Kitty Litterature poets and writers were well-received and the piano jazz by Bill Reid was “purr-fect.” We raised $435 for the Panhandle Animal Shelter’s Feral Cat Spay/Neuter Fund. 'Yes' vote is right for community, schools
Sandpoint is fortunate to have the highest quality teachers and administrators. I see this firsthand when I see what my children are learning and how they apply the lessons. Mercury levels must be considered in EIS
In all the dust-up concerning the shipping of American coal to China, almost nothing has been said about the vast amounts of highly toxic mercury which will be released into the atmosphere along with the soot, CO2, and other pollutants which dirty up the air around the world. Photographs of Chinese cities show visibilities of less than a city block due to the smog created by the fossil fuels now being used in that country. Why make it worse for them and for us?

Address real issues, not sale of state lands
Concerning Rep. Eric Anderson’s article on Idaho’s procurement of federal lands, before taking needless time and actions it would be worthwhile for legislators to review the Idaho Constitution and Idaho law on what is legal. Both do not allow Idaho to claim federal properties (see Idaho Admissions Act and Article 21, Section 19 of the Idaho Constitution). Also ask the question, is Idaho willing to assume this responsibility to continue to serve all multiple use needs and demands, frequently for a loss?

Don't sell off our lands to the highest bidder
I am writing in response to Rep. Eric Anderson’s opinion, published in the Daily Bee on Jan. 27. Rep. Anderson opined that it would be in Idaho’s best interests to assume control over our national forests and public lands. While it might be in the best interests of a select few, I’m not sure it’s in the best interests of the greater good.

Senator's comments were appropriate
Dear Sen. Sheryl Nuxoll:
Health care exchange is important
Our legislators need our feedback in order to support Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter and vote in favor of creating a state-based health insurance exchange. There are many reasons for Idaho to design a state-based exchange rather than allowing the federal exchange to be established in Idaho.
