CLARK FORK — Clark Fork seniors Mariah Miller and Tessa Vogel were each named to the All-North Star League girls basketball team, as voted on by the league’s coaches.

The pair provided steady play during a tough season for the Wampus Cats, who lost the league’s best player when fellow senior Dimi Kailang was lost for the year with an injury in the third game of the year.

Miller, one of the quickest players in the league, averaged 10.6 points, six steals and 3.5 rebounds in league games this season, and shot a scintillating 66 percent from beyond the arc.

“She’s a very athletic girl, I wish she’d played all four years,” said Cats head coach Dexter Vogel of Miller, who didn’t play as a sophomore or junior. “She shot the ball very well from beyond the arc, 66 percent, that’s impressive. She worked hard all of the time, and her quickness showed in her steals.”

Vogel averaged 10.7 points, 7.5 rebounds, two assists and two steals for the Cats in league play, also shooting a respectable 75 percent from the line. While the numbers were solid, it was her steady leadership and varsity experience that helped carry the Cats down the stretch.

“Her hard work the whole time she’s on the floor, whether she was playing on the wing or under the bucket,” said father and head coach Vogel. “She had really good basketball sense, where to be on the floor and when.”
