Americans refusing to keep paying higher prices
May be dealing a final blow to US inflation spike
The great inflation spike of the past three years is nearly spent — and economists credit American consumers for helping slay it. Some of America's largest companies say their customers are increasingly seeking cheaper alternative products and services, searching for bargains or just avoiding items they deem too expensive. Consumers aren't cutting back enough to cause an economic downturn. Rather, the economy appears to be returning to pre-pandemic norms, when most companies felt they couldn't raise prices much without losing business. A more price-sensitive consumer helps explain why inflation has appeared to be steadily falling toward the Federal Reserve's 2% target, ending a period of painfully high prices that strained people's budgets and darkened their outlooks on the economy.

Cognitive testing is a 10-minute series of questions to assess different brain functions. What can the brief screening tool tell about a person's brain health? And when does the average older adult need one? The tests don't diagnose health problems. A bad score is just a red flag that indicates a need for further testing. Generally, it's a good idea for seniors to get checked yearly to spot changes.

Plan retains the basic framework of Idaho elk hunting
The plan is a blueprint for sustaining healthy elk herds, rebuilding herds that are below objectives, and establishes goals that Fish and Game will work to achieve without determining specifics for hunting in each unit or zone, which is done during biannual season setting.
The joy of going solo to Snyder Lake
Still, there was also something very unsettling about knowing I was alone. If something happened, if I fell or even worse, surprised a grizzly, there would be no one to help. So I shouted loud and often.

Salvadorans walk to honor Saint Óscar Romero
Up to 3,000 Salvadoran Catholics will participate in Saint Óscar Romero's pilgrimage, an annual event that kicks off in El Salvador each Aug. 1 to honor San Salvador's archbishop, who was appointed saint by Pope Francis in 2018. "He was the most beloved and hated man of his time," said Cardinal Gregorio Rosa Chávez, who was his disciple and friend. Already known to many as "Saint Romero of the Americas," he was beloved among the working class and poor for defending them against repression by the army. But he was equally loathed by conservative sectors who saw him as aligned with leftist causes as the country descended into a 1980-1992 civil war.

A few signs on spotting truth, misinformation
In 68 years, 46 in North Idaho, I’ve learned a few things. Spotting when someone is lying to me isn’t hard. When someone says, “I’m merely presenting some interesting information” at the end of a series of baseless rumormongering and inelegant “connecting the dots” accusations. There’s your sign.

Congress writes laws, not bureaucrats
Idaho was among 27 statesthat jointly implored the U.S. Supreme Court to scrap the Chevron doctrine. The states noted that, since the Chevron, U.S.A. Inc. v. Natural Resources Defense Council, Inc. decision ruling 40 years ago — establishing the Chevron doctrine--federal agencies have published more than 2.5 million pages of final regulations, surpassing enacted laws at a rate of 26-to-1. Regulatory costs exceed every cost for Americans but housing, and federal rules impose an average of $11,700 per employee per year on small businesses. Overreaching federal regulation discourages job growth and competition in Idaho and throughout the United States. Fortunately, after years of confusion and uncertainty, the Supreme Court overruled Chevron, restoring integrity, transparency and constitutional adherence to the federal judiciary.
