Bypass planning should start over
There are always times in one's life when the dawn seems to be forever in coming. I think that seems to apply to the matter of how to handle Sandpoint's traffic.
The Sand Creek option has always been favored because it was considered the least expensive solution to the problem when in reality the cost will be enormous. The ITD track record almost assures that cost overruns will be a certainty. Concrete structures, no matter how artfully constructed, represent urban blight. Any large city can attest to the consequence of interstate construction. And to place an elevated highway between the town and its unique setting on the lake is just plain stupid.
If you want to see the consequence of ignoring common sense just follow the sequence of events that has given Spokane its parking garage fiasco. It is time to apply some old fashioned "horse sense" to the problem and begin anew, but this time on the right track
