Peter Joseph Santino, 73

Peter Joseph Santino, 73, passed away Monday, March 29, 2004, in Sandpoint.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 8, 2004, at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dave Olson officiating.

Pete was born on May 10, 1930, in Berkeley, Calif., to Peter and Sara Santino. He grew up and attended schools in Berkeley. In Pete's younger days, he was a professional race car driver.

Pete married Sandra Burke on Nov. 20, 1955, in Reno, Nev.

The couple made their home in the Lake Tahoe area and worked in the Nevada casinos. Pete worked as a bartender in Harvey's Casino in Lake Tahoe. In 1972, they moved to the Sandpoint area and Pete worked at Schweitzer Mountain for 13 years. He then spent a few years in Wendover, Nev., tending bar at the Stateline Casino. He retired in 1996 and moved back to Sandpoint.

He enjoyed taking care of his yard, spending time with his grandchildren, camping, playing cards and gambling.

He is survived by his wife, Sandy Santino of Sandpoint; two sons, Peter (Elya) Santino II of Sandpoint and Michael Santino of Sandpoint; two daughters, Kathleen (Roger) Campbell of Sagle and Sara (David) Clark of Reno, Nev.; and eight grandchildren, Dacota, Joseph and Cameron Santino, Jeramy and Matthew Campbell, David and Ahamber Clark and Jennifer Marshall. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
