Badgers squeak by Spartans in first meet

| April 9, 2004 9:00 PM

PRIEST RIVER—After a brief downpour, the Spartans played their first golf meet of the season against the Bonners Ferry Badgers. The young Spartan team went down to defeat by just four strokes, 177-181.

Spartan senior, Daniel Warren, was just one over par for a 34. Warren's great round helped lead the rest of the field. Bonner's top guy was Joe Lowther with a 36.

"Daniel did a great job as usual, and so did our only girl, Shelby Hatfield. For the first outing of the season they did great," said Spartan coach, Scott Salesky. "Of course the outcome wasn't what we wanted it to be. All the meets will lead up to state, which we will be hosting at Stoneridge on May 10."

The Spartans will play in the rescheduled IML meet at St. Maries on April 10 at 9 a.m. They face the Kellogg Wildcats on April 15 at 4 p.m.
