Joan Francis McCormick, 67

Joan Francis McCormick, 67, passed away at her home in Sagle on Monday, April 19, 2004.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, April 23, 2004, in the Sandpoint United Methodist Church. Pastors Robert and Tori Hicks will officiate with interment following in Pinecrest Memorial Park.

Friends may call at Coffelt's Moon Chapel from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, April 22.

Joan was born in LaGrande, Ore., on March 18, 1937, the daughter of Joan and Elizabeth Garity and graduated from high school there in 1955. She married Ron McCormick in Boise in 1957.

She earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education and her master's degree in educational administration from the University of Idaho. She had lived in LaGrande and Salem, Ore., before moving to Sandpoint in 1966. She was best known for her years teaching at Lincoln School and later as a teacher and principal at the Sagle School.

She was a member of the Sandpoint United Methodist Church. She also was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa and Beta Sigma Phi sororities, the Panhandle Nile Club and the Sagle Helping Hand Club. She was named Outstanding Young Woman of 1972 by the Sandpoint Jay-C-Ettes.

Joan enjoyed volunteering in many organizations, including 4-H, Girl Scouts, Job's Daughters, American Cancer Society and Hospice.

She was very devoted to her family, especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Ron McCormick of Sagle; a son, Gregory (and Pam) McCormick of Longview, Wash.; two daughters, Mindi (and Doug) Bradetich of Sagle and Terri (and Cliff) Benda of St. Maries; and grandchildren, Taylor and Alex McCormick, Stacey, Amy and Erin Bradetich; and Adam Benda.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Bill Fleenor.

Memorials may be made to the Calam Shriners Hospital Transportation Fund, 855 Main St., Lewiston, ID, 83501.
