Larry Lee Griffin, 68, passed away on Friday, April 16, 2004, in Sandpoint, Idaho.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 24, 2004, at Coffelt's Moon Chapel in Sandpoint with Masonic rites provided by the Lakeside Lodge AF & AM No. 42.

Larry was born on April 27, 1935, in Highland Park, Mich., the son of Lee and Mary Christina (Brooks) Griffin. The family moved to San Diego, Calif., and he grew up there and attend local schools and college. He graduated from Cal Western University in 1953.

He joined the San Diego Police Department and worked as a detective for more than 30 years. Over the years, he was wounded in the line of duty many times.

Larry met Marylou Gross and married her on Sept. 29, 1979, in El Cajon, Calif., and they made their home in El Cajon.

He retired and moved to Sandpoint in 1988.

Larry belonged to the AF & AM Lakeside Lodge No. 42 in Sandpoint, the Police Officers Association and the Retired Fire and Police Association.

He loved astronomy and model railroading and being with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Marylou of Sandpoint; three daughters, Rebecca Neal of Lakeside, Calif., Rachel (Dave) Huston of El Cajon, and Kai (Allan) Neill of Sandpoint; two sons, James (Mary) Griffin of Sandpoint and David Contreras of San Diego, Calif.; nine grandchildren and a sister, Lynn (Phil) Johnson of El Cajon, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ronald Frick.

Arrangements are under the care of Coffelt Funeral Services, Inc., of Sandpoint.
