Robert L. 'Bob' Coop, 72
Robert L. "Bob" Coop, 72, passed away Thursday, April 15, 2004, in Coeur d'Alene.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 24, 2004, in Coffelt's Moon Chapel in Sandpoint. Pastor Chad Wilks, Sandpoint Church of the Nazarene, will officiate.
A potluck dinner will follow the services in the VFW Hall in Sandpoint.
Bob was born in Imporia, Kan., on Aug. 28, 1931, the son of Harold and Viola Coop. He later moved to Tacoma, Wash., where he joined the U.S. Army. He served in the 31st and 24th infantry divisions in the Korean War from 1949 to 1950. He was the first wounded American to be sent home from Korea.
After his military service, he moved to Lancaster, Calif., where he met and married Hazel Mayfield. His son Joe was born there in 1955.
He owned and operated a horse ranch and worked for the Lancaster School District. He was very active in FFA and received the Father of the Year Award in 1964.
In 1966, he moved to Cocolalla and then later into Sandpoint. In 1972, he met and married Ella Mae Craig.
He was a sportsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling. He liked to work around his house and in the garden.
He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Debie Coop; a stepdaughter, Louella (and Dan) Moran; a stepson, Pat (and Trina) Craig; grandchildren, Jeremy and Heather Coop, Jennifer and Patrick Broyles, Justina Coop Haylee, Lacey and Ashley Moran and Hannah Craig; great-grandchildren, Justin and Rebecca Coop; two sisters, Joanne Basulto and Delores (and Steve) Rongyocsik; and two brothers, Harold Schmidt and Jerry (and Nancy) Schmidt. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Joe; a sister, Betty; and a brother, Buddy.
Arrangements are under the care of Coffelt Funeral Service of Sandpoint.
