Alexander and Evans visit with the Bulldogs

SANDPOINT — A whole pack of Bulldog football players and a couple of Seahawks got together for some touch football and some tasty grub on the Pend Oreille river this summer.

NFL Pro Bowler and running back Shaun Alexander and his offensive teammate and fullback for the Seahawks, Heath Evans met up with the Bulldog football team and coaching staff at the home of Curt and Barbara Hecker.

"The boys didn't just get to meet them, they were able to spend some quality time with them," said Sandpoint head coach Sean Dorris. "When they spoke, you could tell it was from the heart and the kids really connected with the guys."

The Seahawks answered questions and gave the Bulldogs advice on how to set, work for, and achieve lofty goals. The Dogs were encouraged to work hard, be coachable, stay in school, and never give up on their dreams and goals. The Hawks and Dogs both agreed to shoot for a Superbowl win and a state championship.

After the question and answer session, the Dogs and Hawks hooked up for some touch football on the lawn. After the friendly game they all jumped into the river for some action on the wakeboards.

"They definitely made several new Seahawk fans," said Dorris. "It's not every day you get a chance to talk to or play touch football with a multi-million dollar athlete. This will be something the guys will always remember and we're very grateful to them for taking the time."

The Sandpoint High School football team opens their season at home against Skyview on Friday, Aug. 27. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Barlow Memorial Field. The Seahawks first regular season game is Sunday Sept. 12 against the New Orleans Saints.
