Maxine Lenora Murray, 82

Maxine Lenora Murray, 82, passed away, Saturday, Aug. 28, 2004, in Sandpoint, Idaho. Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004, at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Nancy Copeland-Payton officiating. Burial will follow at the Pinecrest Memorial Park.

Maxine, known to her family as "Gramma Great" was born on Aug. 17, 1922. She was raised in Osage City, Kan., a daughter of Erwin and Lenora Gillan. After visiting relatives in Sandpoint as a young woman, and being captivated by the beauty of North Idaho, Maxine moved here in 1941. She began working at Lee's Cafe, and in 1942 she married Y. Lee Eng. Together, they owned and operated Lee's Cafe. Many people will also remember her from Don's Drive-In where she worked for 14 years.

In 1962, Maxine married Roy Murray, the couple later made their home in Potlatch, Idaho. Maxine lived in Potlatch until 1986 when Mr. Murray passed away. She then moved back to Sandpoint to be closer to her family.

Maxine will be remembered for her work with Senior Companions and as a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

Maxine's gentle spirit and dedication to family will be honored and remembered by her children, Larry Eng of Sacramento, Calif., Marvin (Cheryl) Eng of Ritzville, Wash., Dixie Kent of Ponderay, Idaho, Bonnie Sanborn of Sandpoint, Idaho, and Leroy (Marsha) Murray of Post Falls, Idaho.

Maxine's caring and gracious qualities will be carried on by her grandchildren, Jeff Bouse of Ponderay, Idaho, Dennis Eng of Battleground, Wash., Trevor and Colin Eng of Ritzville, Wash., Jacinda Bokowy of Sandpoint, Kevin Lewis of Sandpoint, Todd O'Brien of Ritzville, Denise Brown of Spokane, Wash., Joe Murray of Potlatch, Idaho, Myron and Marty Murray of Post Falls, Idaho, and Becky Keck of Potlatch. Maxine's sense of humor and silliness will be played out in her great-grandchildren, Brenden and Alyssa Eng, Cody, Carson and Austin Lewis, Payton and Katie Bokowy, Tyler and Tessa O'Brien, L.J., Lindsey and Evan Murray, Jacob, Emily and Russell Keck.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, Erwin and Lenora Gillan; two brothers, Glen and Dale Gillan; one sister, Ila Mae Runyan; and two husbands, Y. Lee Eng and Roy Murray.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Lakeview Funeral Home in Sandpoint.
