Richard J. 'Rick' Lutes, 57

Richard J. "Rick" Lutes, 57, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2004, in Spokane, Wash.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004, at Coffelt's Moon Chapel with Pastor David Olson from the First Lutheran Church officiating.

Rick was born on April 15, 1947, in Miles City, Mont., the son of Earl and Kathryn (Doan) Lutes. He grew up in Bozeman, Mont., San Diego, Calif., and San Bernardino, Calif., where he graduated from Pacific High School. Following high school, Rick went to work for the Sun Telegram Newspaper in San Bernardino.

He honorably served his country during Korea and Vietnam with the U.S. Army. Rick returned to California, where he worked for the Goodyear Tire Company and New West Fabricating before opening his own video store, All American Video.

Rick married Mary Globensky on Nov. 11, 1988, in San Bernardino, Calif. In 1989, they moved to Sandpoint. Rick worked for, at that time, Crest Home Health then Bonner Home Health, until his health forced him to retire in 1997.

Rick loved the outdoors, especially being on Lake Pend Oreille. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating and cooking. He was a wonderful son, great husband and a special grandpa who taught his grandchildren to make cupcakes by hand. He was affectionately known to them as Papa Rick.

He is survived by his wife, Mary of Sagle; two sons, Rick and his wife Kris, and Dan; two daughters, Lori and her husband, Frank, and Tina and her husband, Tim; 10 grandchildren, Shannon, Dakota, Jacob, Kirstin, Kaitlin, Kory, Martina, Cody, Lisa and Shelbee; a sister, Joyce Leen; an aunt, Vivian Lutes; and cousins, Don, Gary, Diane, Greg and Dana.

Rick was preceded in death by his father, Earl.

Memorials may be made in his honor to the Vietnam Veterans of America, Local Chapter 890, P.O. Box 2014, Sandpoint, ID 83864.
