May M. Coinson, 97

| December 3, 2004 8:00 PM

May M. Coinson, 97, passed from this life on Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2004, at the home of her niece and nephew in Hope, Idaho.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Monday, Dec. 6, 2004, at Lakeview Cemetery with the Rev. Dennis Day of St. Joseph's Catholic Church officiating.

May was born on July 28, 1907, in Waterbury, Conn., to Edmond and Marie Coinson, a Swiss couple living in New England, where her father worked for Waltham watches. At the age of 16, her family returned to Europe. May grew up in France and Switzerland and accompanied her mother and her sister's family when they returned to the United States and homesteaded in the Mojave Desert in the fifties.

She eventually followed her nieces and nephews to the Northwest. They are Elisabeth O'Meara and Janou and David Scherb of Sandpoint and Hope, and Anne and Gary Finer and Philippe Lage of Spokane. For the last 24 years, she enjoyed sharing in their lives, and watching their families grow.

May was an avid and skilled embroiderer, and a follower of world events whose loving and constant companion was her cat, Judy. She loved being known as the "chocolate lady" for the hundreds of chocolate bars she would give away just to see people smile.

She represented the families' treasured European roots and will be greatly missed.
