Intolerance over sign seems troublesome
I wish to take issue with Chris White's intolerant, judgmental and utterly absurd comments regarding Christianity and Jesus' views on current events (Dec. 12, 2004).
I didn't see Steve Smith's Thanksgiving display about which Chris was complaining, but what I find troublesome is that Chris accuses all of Christianity as being intolerant, homophobic, fear-spreading and even responsible for centuries of bloodshed up to this day (an utter absurdity). Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. If anything it is Chris who is intolerant (of Christians, Republicans and anyone expressing their faith).
As for Christianity being the cause of centuries of bloodshed up to this day, where does he get his information? While no one can deny that some wars (e.g. the Crusades) and some bloodshed has occurred under the guise of Christianity, genuine biblical Christianity was never the cause. Of course, I don't hear Chris complaining about the millions of Christians who have been killed by non-believers simply for being Christians, most of whom have been killed in the past century.
What I find most absurd, however, is that Chris claims to have a direct line into Jesus' views on all current events. He is sure Jesus would not support the invasion of Iraq, etc. etc.. He even knows that Jesus would not like being called "Lord." As far as I know, the only place to find out what Jesus believes would be to look in the Bible, Chris. Try it. You might be surprised at what the Lord (Mattew 7:21; 8:2-8; 12:8; John 20:28-29; etc,) Jesus Christ likes and dislikes.
