Priest River man accidentally shot

PRIEST RIVER — A Priest River man is lucky to receive minor injuries after his gun went off while he was sleeping early Wednesday, striking him in the leg.

Bonner County Sheriff's officials said Gilbert Young, 43, was shot in the upper left leg when his .38-caliber revolver accidentally discharged while he was sleeping. Young had the gun underneath his pillow, officials said.

The bullet stuck him just above the knee of his left leg and Young was transported to Newport Community Hospital for treatment of the gunshot wound. He was listed in satisfactory condition on Wednesday afternoon.

"I wouldn't suggest sleeping with your weapon," said Sheriff-elect Elaine Savage. "I sure wouldn't do it, but as far we're concerned, the shooting is simply an accident."
