Animal shelter has year-end 'dog sale'

SANDPOINT — First it was a special price for cat adoptions. Now, it's gone to the dogs.

Thanks to another anonymous donor, the Panhandle Animal Shelter is offering a special adoption price on adult dogs, good through Dec. 31. Normally $65, the donor is contributing $15 per dog, bringing the final price to $50.

"This is another example of a big-hearted animal lover giving back to the community," said Katy Hefley, shelter manager.

Every adult dog (puppies are not included in this special price) comes spayed or neutered and is up-to-date on shots.

Hefley cautions that although a new dog in the household is exciting, "the busy holidays are a little extra stressful on dogs in a new situation. It's important to consider your choice carefully."

She encourages people to choose a dog based on long-term commitment — "it isn't just another Christmas gift — so that dog and household are compatible, Hefley added.

Anyone wishing to adopt a dog can take advantage of this "sale price" now, even if they wait 'til after the holidays to choose their dog. The $50 special ends Friday, Dec. 31.
