Move bypass and save Sandpoint

| July 5, 2004 9:00 PM

The purpose of writing to you is to express strong opposition to the location of the Sand Creek Bypass in Sandpoint.

We own a creek-front lot purchased several years ago on which we intended to build a retirement home.

Now, we are confronted with a situation where Sand Creek will be substantially reduced in width directly across from our waterfront, fill material will allow and cause erosion into the creek and the habitat for plants, wild animals and human enjoyment will be irreparably shattered.

From a community standpoint, the bypass is no bypass but a direct dividing of the town of Sandpoint through its center. this fact causes excessive traffic noise, reduces the beauty of the town beach and waterfront area and will detract from people coming to nearby Schweitzer Ski Resort, which a good number of vacationers select as a destination not only for winter sports but to escape the "freeway" world which grows in larger cities of America yearly.

Please, for the above reasons, reconsider and save Sandpoint, "the beautiful" by moving the bypass to the west near railroad tracks and airport.

Who knows, it could be a commercial opportunity since vacationers would arrive nearer the mountain with closer access to rail and air transport. Save central Sandpoint.
