Riley Creek back on the winning track
LEWISTON — With a few early fireworks of their own, the Riley Creek Lakers pulled off a pair of much needed wins at Lewiston's Fourth of July American Legion baseball tournament Saturday.
Starting pitcher Mike Peak, with some help from relief pitcher Adam Hodges, held Woodinville, Wash. to just four runs in seven innings. The Laker bats also found their mark and Riley Creek finished the game with 15 hits en route to a 12-4 victory.
"We finally got back on track to the way we know how to play. We got great pitching from Peak and Hodges and between the two of them they racked up seven hits," said Riley Creek coach Rick Klontz. "Our defense played great and with the exception of one error we were pretty much flawless."
The Lakers continued their momentum through Game Two as they dominated Trail, B.C. 9-2.
"I was very pleased that we played two solid games in the same day," Klontz said. "If the kids can keep playing with that same intensity they'll be tough to beat."
Justin Watson had a great defensive game being apart of four out of five double plays in the game and five out of seven on the day.
Riley Creek plays host to Lewiston in a doubleheader today at Memorial Park at 1 p.m. in Sandpoint.
