Riley Creek splits doubleheader in Post Falls

| July 7, 2004 9:00 PM

POST FALLS — Brent Scott hit a grand slam in the third inning to lead Sandpoint to a 10-0 victory over the Prairie Patriots in the first game of Wednesday's Class AA North Idaho League doubleheader.

But Kyle Douglas scored the game-winner on a throwing error in the fourth inning of the second game to give the Patriots (6-6 NIL, 17-8) a 2-1 victory and a split.

"It's almost like kissing your sister. We had a chance to make a move tonight," Patriot's coach Bob Stamsos said. "They're 8-8 in league, but they took one from Lewiston last night so they are playing well."

In the opener, Scott hit the grand slam in the third to give Sandpoint (8-8, 17-16) a 4-0 lead and that's all the Lakers needed.

Justin Watson finished with three hits and Mike Peak had two.

In the nightcap, Peak doubled in the first inning to drive in Quinn Walkington for Sandpoint's only run.

Tim Carlson, who struck out seven and walked four, struck out the next two Sandpoint batters to keep the Lakers from creating a big lead.

Carlson doubled to lead off the second inning and scored on an Andy Kifer single to tie the game.

Douglas singled to lead off the fourth for the Patriots and moved over on a wild pitch. Huffman drove a ball to the right side and Douglas scored the go-ahead run on a throwing error.
