SANDPOINT — Allison Hein, a Sandpoint High School graduate, was selected as one of 25 national winners of a $7,500 college scholarship in the Scholar Athlete Mile Mustache of the Year (SAMMY) award contest.

The award, sponsored by the "Got Milk?"- Milk Mustache campaign and USA Today newspaper, earned Hein a spot in the SAMMY Hall of Fame.

Hein was honored last month by U.S. figure skating champion Michelle Kwan and former Super Bowl champ Brad Johnson in Orlando, Fla. She also had her name and picture placed in the SAMMY Hall of Fame at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex Milk House in Orlando.

In addition, Hein will play a part in an advertising campaign in which her milk mustache photo is featured on a billboard and in Sports Illustrated, USA Today and ESPN the Magazine.

As one of the 75,000 applicants for the scholarship based on athletics, academics, leadership and community service, Hein earned recognition for her proficiency in each category.

In academics, she was named three times to the National Honor Society and twice as an Idaho Top Scholar.

In athletics, she racked up a long list of district and state medals in both cross country and track. She also was named to the IEL All-Star track team all four years.
