A Mass for Richard C. Toof, 49, will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 12, at St. George's Catholic Church in Post Falls.

Richard, who died Thursday from complications of a stroke he suffered on June 29, 2004, was born in San Jose, Calif. He graduated from Quartz Hill High School in Lancaster, Calif. and served four years as a cartographer in the U.S. Air Force, reaching the rank of sergeant.

While in Northern Idaho, he was employed by Moose Express and TCM Courier, among others. Everyone knew that he would be on time and arrive with a smile.

Richard was a member of the Bloomsday Road Runners Club of Northern Idaho and participated as a walker in over 500 events. He was especially proud of his eleven marathon medals. Noted for his ever-present 49er jacket, he was a familiar and friendly face at events throughout the Northwest.

Richard was also a member of the Sandpoint Model Railroad Club.

Survivors include his mother, Rita M. Toof of Coeur d'Alene; his sister and brother-in-law, Peg and Wally Farrell of Oakland, Calif.; his brother and sister-in-law, David and Edie Toof of Topeka, Kan.; as well as his nephews, Jason Hardaway of Portland, Ore.; and Aaron Hardaway and his wife Bree of Mission Viejo, Calif.
