Rivas drives in five for Panhandle at state

OSBURN — District One Babe Ruth teams competed Friday at Morehouse Field in Osburn with the hopes of making it to the State Babe Ruth Tournament.

In the first game of the day, Spirit Lake defeated Bonners Ferry by a score of 14-3. Spirit Lake's Brandon Hass drove in four runs on the day to lift them to a win. Steven Zamora got the complete game win.

Panhandle jumped on the host Silver Valley squad, defeating them by a 28-1 margin. Tabu Ramos drove in five runs on the day for Panhandle. Chris Anglin reached base twice on walks and Derrick Holmquist made two run-saving plays at third base in the loss for Silver Valley.

In the final game of the day, Silver Valley broke open a 3-2 game in the seventh inning with an eight-run inning, capped by an inside the park homerun from Tom Norris to defeat Bonners Ferry 11-2.

Saturday's action will begin at 11 a.m. with the Friday's lone unbeaten teams, Spirit Lake and Panhandle, followed by Bonners Ferry and Panhandle at 2:30 p.m.

Action concludes for the day at 5:30 p.m. with host Silver Valley facing Spirit Lake.

GAME FOUR — Spirit Lake (1-0) v. Panhandle (1-0), 11 am.

GAME FIVE — Bonners Ferry (0-2) v. Panhandle (1-0), 2:30 p.m.

GAME SIX — Silver Valley (1-1) v. Spirit Lake (1-0), 5:30 p.m.
