Bill needed because officials don't care

| July 11, 2004 9:00 PM

I would like to respond to the letter of July 8, authored by Jerry Stern of Sagle. Right on, and to the point. I also have communicated with our legislators and have read House Bill 781.

What bothers me is this bill and others like it would not be needed if our local "elected" officials were looking out for us.

When I appealed the land valuation of less than a third of an acre at $36,658 which equates to $174,561 per acre I was turned down unanimously by our commissioners. I do not like the initiative approach, because I think our local officials could manage local expenditures better, rather than voting themselves an enormous pay raise in these times of economic doldrums. Let us support Mr. Stern in his efforts and let us be heard at the voting booth. Let us hear from you.
