SPOKANE — Capturing five Pentathlon medals in Spokane, the SWAC Sharks opened their long course season on May 22 with 15 other swim teams.

Lightning, rain, and white caps in the outdoor pool did not hinder Colton Story (12) from taking home the high point trophy by winning five first place events. Eric Mann (14) placed second overall, winning the 100-meter Freestyle, Backstroke and Butterfly and second in the 100 Breaststroke and 200 IM.

The SWAC 11-12 girls' hard work in the pool paid off as they finished fourth, fifth, sixth and 10th overall with Hillary Contor placing fourth overall with a drop of 12 seconds in the 100 IM and two seconds in the 100 free (33:66). Meranda Carter (fifth) cut time from four events with a drop of 11 seconds from her 100 IM (3:13:37) Selena Warburton (sixth) dropped 17 seconds from her 100 IM and placed second in the 100 Breaststroke (45:21).

Madison Contor, age 7, placed fourth overall in all five events. Despite the rain pouring in her face, she swam to a 1:03:7 in the 50 Backstroke. Keeley Pearlstein (10) swam a 59:16 in her first outdoor meet in the 50 Fly and dropped one second from her 50 free to place sixth.

Toward the end of April, coach Mike Brosnahan took the Sharks to compete in another Pentathlon at Whitworth College to close their short course season. Samantha Trulock (12) had a four second drop in her 50 fly and improved times in 100 IM, back and breaststroke. Hillary Contor (12) dropped four seconds from her 100 IM (1:17:65) and swam close to her best times in the other four events.

Shannon Curran (11) swam her 50 free in 32.03 and held her position in the other four events.
