Man run over with pickup truck
SANDPOINT — A Priest River man is charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon for allegedly hitting a Bonner County man with his pickup truck and running over his leg.
Judge Debra Heise set Daniel D. Oldfield's bail at $10,000 during a brief hearing in magistrate court on Monday. A public defender was appointed to represent Oldfield.
Oldfield, 24, was arrested after striking Bernard Walker with his 2001 Toyota pickup early Saturday morning, according to probable cause hearing testimony. Bernard told Sheriff's deputies he saw the vehicle pull up across from his house at about 3 a.m.
When Bernard heard glass breaking he went outside to investigate and spotted the Toyota with its lights off and its engine revving. Then he was hit by the pickup truck, court testimony indicates.
Oldfield's ex-girlfriend, who is Walker's neighbor, identified Oldfield as the driver. She told deputies Oldfield busted the windows on her vehicle and slashed her tires, apparently causing the commotion that caught Walker's attention.
When later contacted at his home, deputies suspected Oldfield of being "very drunk."
