SMS tracksters have record breaking season.

SANDPOINT — The Sandpoint Middle School track team ended a very successful track season, May 7, at the district track meet at Lake City High School.

The seventh-grade boys and girls and the eighth-grade boys all placed first, with the eighth-grade girls placing second in the five team meet.

During the course of the season seven individual records and one relay record were set.

Gunnar Paulson led the sprinters with school records in the 200-meters (23.7) and the 400 (56.0).

The 800 relay team of Kyle Gibson, Trevor Johnson, Tarnell Brown and Mat Lawrence broke the record with a time of 1:43.2.

Brooke DeMers jumped her way into the record books breaking her record from last year with a jump of 5 feet, 2 inches in the high jump.

Brittany Groenhout broke the record in the 55 hurdles with a time of 9.5.

Nicole Van Dyk broke the 400 record with a time of 1:04.5.

Seventh grade distance ace Spencer Swerin broke the records in the mile with a time of 5:01 and the 800 with a time of 2:16.85.
