Dorothy Margaret Paulson, 73

Dorothy Margaret Paulson, 73, passed away, Monday, June 21, 2004, in Coeur d'Alene.

Graveside memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. today, Thursday, June 24, 2004, at the Lakeview Cemetery with Pastor Jim Osman of the Kootenai Community Church officiating. Dorothy's great-grandchildren Maximillien and Grace Hefley will play the song, "When the Saints Go Marching In." Inurnment will take place in the new Lakeview Cremation Columbarium.

Dorothy was born on June 28, 1930, in New Orleans, La., to Mabel and Milard (Siefert) Smith. She grew up and did her schooling in New Orleans. She met and married Ralph Santos in 1949, the couple were later divorced.

Dorothy moved to southern California in 1959. She married Thomas Paulson on Nov. 10, 1965, in Las Vegas, Nev. The couple made their home and raised their family in Fallbrook, Calif.

In 1978 the family moved to Sandpoint. Mr. Paulson passed away in 1996. Dorothy recently moved to Evergreen Assisted Living, where she enjoyed her many friends and activities.

Dorothy was an extraordinary Cajun cook. She taught her son-in-law, Ralph Hefley, owner of the Hydra Restaurant, many of his great cooking secrets. She enjoyed traveling, crocheting, and spending time with her great-grandchildren, Max and Grace.

She is survived by two daughters, Karen Hefley of Sagle, and Carolyn (Paul) Galardo of Ashburn, Va.; a son, Paul Paulson of Sandpoint; two grandchildren, Sean (Michelle) Hefley of Sagle and Eric Hefley of Boise; two great-grandchildren, Maximillien and Grace Hefley of Sagle; a nephew, Roy English of Springfield, Ill.; special friends, Inez Wood of Sandpoint and Monetta Jackson of Tyler, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Paulson; son-in-Law Ralph Hefley; a brother, Milard Smith; and a sister, Carolyn English.
