JoAnne Lucille Burkwist, 81

JoAnne Lucille Burkwist, 81, passed away in Sandpoint on Saturday, Feb. 28, 2004.

The Vigil Service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 4, 2004, in Coffelt's Moon Chapel. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 5, 2004, in St. Joseph's Catholic Church. The Rev. Dennis C. Day will officiate and inurnment will be in Pinecrest Memorial Park.

JoAnne was born on Oct. 18, 1922, in Omaha, Neb., where she graduated from high school. She worked for the Civil Service in Omaha during World War II.

On May 8, 1945, she married Eugene Burkwist in Omaha. They moved to Spokane, Wash., in 1946. For many years, she worked as a sales clerk for the Crescent Department Store.

JoAnne moved to Bottle Bay near Sandpoint in 1977. She served as secretary/treasurer of the Bottle Bay Water and Sewer District.

She was an active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and a past member of the Lady Elks.

She is survived by six children, Barbara Pyle of Wenatchee, Wash., Steve Burkwist of Spokane, Tom Burkwist of Eagle River, Alaska, Phil Burkwist of Spokane, Bev Johnson of Bellevue, Wash., and Terri Hanenberg of Bayview; four grandchildren, Steve Burkwist of Monroe, Wash., Dana Burkwist of Seattle, Melissa Cleveland of Coeur d'Alene, and Josh Burkwist of Alaska; and one great-grandchild, Kaitlin Burkwist of Monroe. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Eugene.

Memorials may be made to the Bonner County Animal Shelter in her memory.

Funeral arrangements are under the care of Coffelt Funeral Service of Sandpoint.
