Spartans capture victory from Rams

| March 19, 2004 8:00 PM

PRIEST RIVER — In a windy season opener, the Priest River Spartans slipped by the Riverside Rams, 5-4 in Thursday afternoon action. The Spartans came out strong in the first inning by scoring three, followed by two in the second. The explosive start carried them through to the final inning.

Jeremy Patterson had two big league defensive plays in the 7th to help preserve the one run lead. Brad Denner and Ben Brumley had triples to help lead the Spartans.

"This is a good way to start the season. We've been working hard for this and don't want to get too excited about the first win," said Spartan coach, Lou Musso. "We have good people that really come through for us. Our defense is strong and should carry us through when we need it."

The Spartans will play host to the Bonners Ferry Badgers in a double header on Saturday. Game time is 11 a.m. at the Priest River Junior High School ballfields.
