Bulldogs edge Trojans in tennis season opener

SANDPOINT — After winning a couple tightly contested matches, the Sandpoint Bulldogs edged Post Falls 4-3 in the season girls varsity tennis opener at Travers Park Monday.

"We are excited. We have a very strong team overall, I believe," said Sandpoint tennis coach Cheryl Klein. "The girls will be a little more challenged with newer players filling in those varsity positions, this year. The boys are deep and strong with a lot of potential."

Winning the No. 2 singles match 7-5, 6-7, 6-2, senior Lauren Fiedler tied the Trojans with three matches apiece. However, it was Pat Hoffman and Victoria Johnson in mixed doubles who went 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 in three sets to put the Bulldogs on top.

"We were thrill to come through with some very close matches to win the overall matchup. So I think it was a great way to start," said Klein.
