Stella Hawkins-Zordell, 86
Stella Allene Haslett Hawkins-Zordell, 86, passed away in Sandpoint on Saturday, March 20, 2004.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, March 26, 2004, in Coffelt's Moon Chapel. Pastor Jon Pomeroy, Sandpoint First Church of God, will officiate with interment to follow in Pinecrest Memorial Park.
Friends may call to pay their respect on Thursday, March 25, from noon to 6 p.m.
Stella was born on Dec. 22, 1917, at Lyndon, Osage County, Kansas, to Earl A. and Florence E. (Wilson) Haslett. The family migrated to Sagle in the early 1930s.
Stella attended Neal Elementary, Michigan Valley, and Lyndon High School in Kansas. She finished high school in Sandpoint, walking the long wagon bridge each day and graduated in 1936.
She married Lynn E. Hawkins on July 13, 1936, in Ottowa, Franklin County, Kansas. A daughter, Lynnette Allene, was born on Sept. 7, 1937.
Lynn and Stella purchased property on the Fish Hatchery Road, now known as Lakeshore Drive, and built a home. Lynn and his brothers owned and operated a sawmill in the area until he went to work for Pack River Lumber Company at Dover.
Stella was active for many years as a 4-H leader and fair judge. Lynn and Stella enjoyed years of square dancing with the Circle 'n' Swing square dance club.
Lynn passed away on Feb. 26, 1974.
Stella continued to live at their home, working for the Bonner County treasurer until her retirement in 1982.
Stella and Oliver L. Zordell were married Aug. 4, 1984, in a beautiful garden setting at her home. They enjoyed gardening, square dancing and walks in the woods.
Oliver passed away at the home on May 18, 2001.
Stella passed away March 20, 2004, at Valley Vista Care Center.
Stella is survived by a daughter, Lynnette Rembowski and husband, Gordon, of Laclede; three granddaughters, Kimberly Rembowski of Aurora, Colo., Kelly Brown and husband, Don, of Rathdrum, and Kristan Peacock and husband, Scott, of Laclede; three great-grandchildren, Justine and Ryan Brown and Nicholas Peacock; a stepdaughter, Gladys Larson and husband, Art, of Naples; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; sisters, Rosalie Knabe of Mead, Wash., and Maxine Gilbert of Spokane, Wash.; and a brother, Robert, of Spokane. She also is survived by Wayne and Betty Hawkins, Ruby and Gene Patterson, Emma Hawkins, Lawana Olson, Janie Bradetich, Beulah Hale, Ralph and Marie Hawkin, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Nola Lynell; brothers, Bill, Ervin and Everett Haslett; and a sister, Reva Uhrig.
Arrangements are under the care of Coffelt Funeral Service of Sandpoint.
