Viks sweep Bulldogs in softball home opener

| March 23, 2004 8:00 PM

Coeur d'Alene 22-14 Sandpoint 0-1

With Coeur d'Alene clearly dominating nearly ever aspect of Tuesday's softball doubleheader, the Bulldogs were still able to find a few nuggets of hope in the loss at Travers Park.

"I think we did pretty well. I seen huge improvements since our last game," said Sandpoint coach Erin Lohman, who pointed to her team's defensive gains in the second game of the day. "We're still trying to figure the best positions for everyone."

In contrast, the Vikings cruised to their fifth straight victory of the season, while Sandpoint slides to 0-8.

"They are a little bit down this year, but we did what we had to do," said Coeur d'Alene coach Larry Bieber. "We knew we had to put the ball in play, run the bases and just be real aggressive. And that's what we did."

Scoring 13 points in the opening three innings, the Vikings took advantage of the 10-run rule to wrap things up in five. This allowed both teams to easily get in another quick five inning game.
