Marjorie L. McCaslin, 87

Marjorie L. McCaslin, 87, passed away on Sunday, March 28, 2004, in Sandpoint.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 1, 2004, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with Bishop Dennis Durfee presiding. Burial will follow at pack River Cemetery.

Marjorie was born on Oct. 19, 1916, in Lamoni, Iowa, the daughter of Noah H. Green and Jennie (Smith) Green. She spent her early childhood in Lamoni, where her family farmed. She moved to Tacoma, Wash., when she was a young girl with her mother and her brother, George Commodore Green.

She married in 1930 and had her first daughter, Georgie, in 1932. She had five more children: Reita, Danny, Janet, Amber and Gail.

Marjorie had completed the eighth grade when she started working to help support herself and her mother. She worked in the fields of western Washington with her family, harvesting peaches, apples, berries and other crops.

During World War II, she was employed at the Tacoma Naval Shipyards, working as a welder's helper. She worked at a variety of jobs until she was disabled in 1970. She spent her remaining years in the homes of family members and friends.

Marjorie loved to garden and to tend flowers. She spent much of her time observing the wonders of nature. She enjoyed the company of her grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In her later years, she enjoyed living and working with her close friend, Adele Gordon, at Adele's Sewing Center in Sandpoint.

Marjorie was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Sandpoint.

She is survived by her children, Georgianna "Georgie" Gohr of Tacoma, Reitalee Martin of Lancaster, Ohio, Phil D. "Danny" Green of Yuma, Ariz., Amber Cropper of Sandpoint and Gail Crow of Kirkland, Wash. She also is survived by her numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends, all who will mourn her passing.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Janet; and her brother, George Green.
