Post Falls sweeps Sandpoint

SANDPOINT — Wrapping up the regular season, Post Falls secured the 4A regional tournament's No. 1 seed with a pair of wins over Sandpoint at Travers Field.

In the opener, the Trojans were led at the plate by pitcher Katie Ness, who had three of Post Falls' 12 hits. She also held the Bulldogs to just five hits.

"Defensively we didn't play very well today, but offensively we hit the ball hard," said Post Falls softball coach Jack Foster. "I think Sandpoint is tough and they did a real good job today. They are scrappy, they keep playing and sometimes when you're not winning it's hard to play."

Post Falls' Heather Glaze hit a grandslam home run in the second inning of game two and the Trojans when on to post five runs against the Bulldogs.

"She hit the ball hard all day," said Foster. "And both of our pitchers threw the ball well."

The Bulldogs managed a few runs of their own in each game, however they were not able to overcome the margin.

"I think we finished strong and we came back," said Sandpoint coach Erin Loman. "We really got some great hits out there and we played some good defensive ball."

As the No. 3 seed, Sandpoint (2-8, 2-22) will play the No. 2 seed Bears in Moscow on Tuesday in the 4A Region I district softball tournament opener.

"I think we have a good shot at districts," said Loman. "I think we can take Moscow on Tuesday."

The winner will then face the No. 1 seed Trojans (10-14) in Post Falls on Thursday for the district championship.

This is just the second time since fastpitch started in Post Falls that they've ended the season with double figures in the win column, said Foster. And it is the first time in school history that the team has been a No. 1 seed in the post season.

"So we get to host regionals next Thursday," he said. "We can't complain about that."
