| May 14, 2004 9:00 PM

The Daily Bee is sponsoring a meet the candidates forum Monday for the candidates running in Tuesday's school board trustee election.

"It became obvious late this week that no other group had stepped up to introduce the trustee candidates to the public so we felt an obligation to do so," said Bee Publisher David Keyes. "Informed votes are very important and qualified representation on our school board is vital to our community."

The informal forum will be held at noon at the Power House restaurant. Lunch will be available from the menu.

Candidates for Zone 1, now represented by Kathy Chambers, include Melanie Snider and Lois Mcleod.

The zone includes almost the entire area east of Highway 95 from Shoshone to Boundary counties. It includes Hope and Clark Fork.

Zone 3 candidates include Joan Fish and Lynnett Rands. Fish applied for the position when former school board Chairman Tom Scott moved from the area. While, the board agreed she was a good candidate, she was not selected and Rands was appointed to the position.

Lynnett Rands is married to Jeff Rands.

Another candidate, Dexter Vogel, dropped his bid for the position.

The zone borders Boundary County and the Priest River School District.

Foster Cline represents Zone 4. Those who applied to run for the seat he holds include Blaine Stevens, Marcus Ross and Mindy Cameron, who helped organize the Panhandle Alliance for Education.

Stevens and Ross have dropped out of the race.

The zone includes all of Sagle and some of Ponderay and Kootenai. It extends eastward to Garfield Bay.

The Daily Bee is also sponsoring a political forum on Wednesday for all of the contested countywide races. That forum will be held at Sandpoint High School. The forum begins at 5:30 p.m. in the auditorium.
