Sandpoint boys edged in 4A Region 1 crown race
Bulldog girls finish third
LEWISTON — Falling a point shy of Post Falls, the Sandpoint boys track team found themselves in second place Friday at the 4A Region I Track and Field Championships.
Meanwhile, the Bulldog girls finished just a half a point on the negative side of second place Post Falls.
On a more positive note, Sandpoint's Mike Staggs won the 400 meters with a time of 54.1 seconds. Roger Blair took first in the 110 high hurdles, while Blake Mahler edged Blair out by a tenth of a second for the 300 intermediate hurdle championship.
In the 4X200 relay, Staggs, Mahler, Blair and Mike Brewer took top honors for Sandpoint. The Bulldogs also went on to win the 4x400 relay as well.
The Sandpoint girls were led by Amy Dyck, who won both the 100 and 200. Dyck also anchored the winning 4X100 relay team that also included Allison Hein, Courtney Adams and Krista Babin.
State is next Thursday and Friday at Boise State for the top two individuals and winning relay teams.
