Dora Schlunegger, 96
Dora Gertrud Schlunegger, 96, a longtime resident of Blaine County, passed away at the home of her son in Kanab, Utah, on May 17, 2004.
Dora was born on May 27, 1907, in Auswil, Switzerland, to Johann Ulrich and Rosina Fluckinger, the second child in a family of five girls and one boy. She had great language skills and could speak Swiss, German, French, Spanish and English.
On March 2, 1928, she married skiing and skating instructor Konrad Frank Schlunegger in Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland. They went to Canada on a honeymoon.
Dora's brother was farming in Saskatchewan and they resided there for about a year before emigrating to the United States. They lived in Ohio, Arizona, and California, and then settled in Ketchum, Idaho in 1938. They eventually purchased the Lake Creek Ranch. One of the highlights of her life was becoming a citizen of the United States in 1954. In 1958, she acquired the Beaver Creek Store where she resided and operated until 1998 when poor health forced her into retirement.
Dora will be remembered by her many friends for her great sense of humor and an ability to retain jokes which she enjoyed sharing with anyone who would listen.
Survivors include her five children Meita Wilson of Bellevue, Idaho, Trudy (Joe) Swaner of Hagerman, Idaho, Conrad (June) Schlunegger of Ventura, Calif., Alfred (Cathy) Schlunegger of La Mirada, Calif,, and Bill (Peg) Schlunegger of Hailey, Idaho, and Kanab, Utah; two sisters who live in Switzerland, 22 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at a later date in Beaver Creek, Idaho. Arrangements were made with Mosdell Mortuary of Kanab, Utah.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Hospice of the Wood River Valley, 507 1st Ave., Ketchum, Idaho, for their kind service to Dora over the years.
