Bette June (Wells) Welter, 81

Bette June (Wells) Welter, 81, passed away on Saturday, May 22, 2004, in Ponderay.

Private family services will be held.

Bette was born on Aug. 8, 1922, in Twin Falls, Idaho, the daughter of John and Vera (Wiggins) Wells. She was raised in Twin Falls, where she also graduated from high school.

She married Howard Malone on Nov. 12, 1945, in Twin Falls.

The couple moved to Sandpoint in 1950, where she raised her family. Bette married M.H. "Bud" Welter on Oct. 14, 1966.

She worked as a veterinarian's assistant for Dr. Aiken for about 10 years, retiring in 1971.

Following her retirement, she took care of the home, enjoying her gardening and flowers. She canned food and spent time on her craft work, which included making latch hook rugs.

Bette was an avid reader, sharing many books with her daughter-in-law. She also was an avid bowler, bowling on several leagues in Sandpoint.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Marcia Malone and Craig Kitchen of Ponderay; her son and daughter-in-law, Bill (Connie) Malone of Sagle; her stepdaughter, Diane Oldham of Oldtown; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Roy Wells of Covington, La.

Bette was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Katherine Fagen; a daughter, Peggy Lynn Pfeifer; her first husband, Howard Malone; and her second husband, M.H. "Bud" Welter.

Arrangements are under the care of Coffelt Funeral Service of Sandpoint.
