Detouring '50s traffic would improve parade

| May 26, 2004 9:00 PM

This was the first year that I attended the Lost in the '50s parade of cars on Friday night. It was a wonderful family event and Sandpoint strutted her stuff with the wholesome fun that we can all enjoy.

I feel the parade could be far more enjoyable if the crosstown traffic was diverted onto other streets and the parade route did not have extra cars and tractor-trailers competing for corner room by Arlo's. Also, people sitting on the north side of the street will not have to look under tractor-trailers and around passing cars to catch a glimpse of the parade autos on the south side of the street which in fact the parade.

I feel that one-way streets could be changed during the time of the parade to accommodate the traffic and there would be less threat of harm to pedestrians and threatened collisions to very expensive, well-loved autos.

Detouring traffic would cause an inconvenience to some, but in other cities they actually close the parade route and some neighboring streets, I am suggesting only closing the parade route and detouring the other cars to continue to accommodate a fabulous event.

Again, thank you Sandpoint for a wonderful family night of fun.
