SANDPOINT — Developers of the proposed Dove Bay housing development in Dover are seeking permits for a commercial marina on the Pend Oreille River, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has announced.

The deadline to comment on the marine facilities is Thursday June 3.

The marina is part of Waterfront Property Management's plan for a 600-unit housing development on the banks of the river. The development is still in the review phase before the Dover City Council.

Waterfront Property Management is seeking the corps' approval to repair and relocate an existing boat dock and two boat garages, and to drive pilings and construct floating breakwaters and more docks. A marine services dock and 860 feet of wood boardwalk are also planned, as is a pre-cast retaining wall that will involve the excavation of a toe trench and the placement of 430 cubic yards of rip-rap.

Some of the work is being done to stabilize the shoreline and create public access to the river.

Developers expect to start construction as soon as the permits are obtained. It's expected the project will be done in phases over a three-year period, although the permit would authorize a five-year construction period.

Comments are to be directed to the U.S. Army Corps' of Engineers, Coeur d'Alene Regulatory Office, Idaho Panhandle National Forest Building, 3815 Schreiber Way, Coeur d'Alene, ID. 83815-8363.
