Bernita Rose Bopp Coffer
Bernita Rose Bopp Coffer passed away on Sept. 18, 2004, in Torrance, Calif. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Interment was held at Green Hills Memorial Park in California.
Bernita was born March 31, 1910, in Sandpoint, Idaho, the oldest daughter of one of Sandpoint's early pioneer families. Her father, Albert Bopp, worked for Humbird Lumber and her mother, Catherine "Kitty" Bopp, was head nurse at the old hospital on the banks of Sand Creek.
She was a long-time Sandpoint resident. Bernita and her husband, Harry Coffer, owned Coffer's Clothing Store on Main Street in the early 1950s and '60s.
Bernita left the area in 1965 to live with her daughter, who lovingly cared for her for the past 39 years.
Bernita lived a full and wonderful life.
Bernita is survived by her sister, Kathleen Moran of Mesa, Ariz.; her son and daughter-in-law, Pat and Phyllis Kaufman of Boise, Idaho; her daughter, Kay Kaufman of Torrance; six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews, many of them still living in the Sandpoint area. She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Kitty Bopp; her husband, Harry Coffer; six brothers, Doug, Jim, Jack, Stanley, Earl and Bill Bopp; and three nieces.
