Esther Lula Read, 88

Esther Lula Read, 88, passed away, Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004, in Sandpoint, Idaho. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, at the Sandpoint United Methodist Church with the Rev. Darryn J. Hewson officiating.

Esther was born Jan. 2, 1916, in Elgin, Neb., to Ralph and Mary Elizabeth Whitmore. She grew up and attended schools in Lincoln, Neb., and graduated from Jackson High School. As a young girl Esther loved to spend time with her father fixing everything from cars to the family home.

The family moved to Sandpoint in 1939 and joined the United Methodist Church. Esther met and married Ward "Bud" Robinson on Oct. 3, 1947, in Sandpoint. After nearly 39 years of marriage Bud passed away in 1986, and was buried in Willamette National Cemetery in Oregon. Esther will also be returned to Willamette National Cemetery.

On Jan. 8, 1989, Esther married William "Bill" Read in Sultan, Wash. The couple spent many years traveling all over the United States and Canada in their recreational vehicle. In 1995, they settled in Sandpoint to be closer to Esther's family.

Esther is a member of Sandpoint United Methodist Church, Sandpoint United Methodist Women, Martha Chapter No. 34 Order of the Eastern Star, and a Past Noble Grand in the Rebekah's Lodge. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, tatting, and woodworking. When she lived in Sultan, WA she volunteered to drive senior citizens to their doctor appointments.

She is survived by her husband, Bill Read of Sandpoint; two sons, Allen Robinson of Tacoma, Wash., and Errol Robinson of Orofino, Idaho; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two sisters, Hope Jones of Lee's Summit, Mo., and Barbara Blood of Sandpoint, Idaho; a brother, Hugh Whitmore of San Diego, Calif.; two sisters-in-law, Betty Deach of Spokane Valley, Wash., and Margaret Ann Bateman of Vernon, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bud Robinson; and a sister, Jean Evans.
