Noise issue shows two sides at odds

I have tried to understand for years now, why the city fathers and the county commissioners are constantly at odds over issues that affect all citizens of Bonner County and the city of Sandpoint.
In the Bee (Nov. 10, 2004), the "mayor wants noise abatement in the vicinity of construction sites." At the commissioners meeting on Nov. 9, 2004, the commissioners voted unanimously to spend more than $1 million to expand the airport. Won't that increase noise levels in the city?
Maybe it is a case of "bait and switch." While we noise that someone is working to reduce noise, someone else is working to increase noise and it will all cost the taxpayers money.
What a great group is working in our interest with our money.
