Waste may head to Murphy Bay

| November 24, 2004 8:00 PM

For most people there are two main things they love about Sandpoint. The mountain and the lake. Our mountain is doing great but our lake is in jeopardy. Southside Sewer District wants to dump processed waste into our beautiful crystal clear lake.

If the citizens of Sandpoint do not act now, on Sept. 5, 2005, they will begin dumping processed waste into Murphy Bay. If you did not realize where this is it is a 1/2 mile up stream from Springy Point. I know as a child I loved the cold clean waters that are now being threatened for the sake of saving a few bucks in the short run but estimates conclude that it will be more expensive in the long run. Does this make sense to you? Polluting our lake with only God knows what and having to deal with the smell that will come along with the waste — on top of it being more expensive in long run.

I sincerely hope that our citizens will not allow for this to happen to the lake that keeps our economy going, the lake that has had countless good times from young to old, our precious lake that you want your kids and their kids and their kids to enjoy. Please citizens of Boundary County think of the future generations to come. Act now and protect our lake.

The petitions deadline is Nov. 25, 2004.

Petitions are available at the following businesses and need to be signed by Nov. 25, 2004 — Winter Ridge, Packages Plus, Pitas Pockets, Pend Oreille Winery, Art Works and Outdoor Experience.
