Theft of campaign signs is a punishable crime

| October 10, 2004 9:00 PM

This campaign season seems to have gone on for several years rather than months. Each candidate has worked hard to secure the trust of the voters.

And, all have placed campaign literature, ads and signs throughout the area to attract the attention of voters.

It would be a public service if the paper would run a feature article remind the rowdy and biased among us that removing signs legally placed in yards, along major highways and on public corners is a misdemeanor — a crime with punishment.

Large, medium and small "Lamanna for sheriff" signs have been removed along two highways (Highway 2 and Highway 57), and from numerous private land where owner permission was granted.

It may be a backward "compliment" that only his signs have been taken and that his run for office is so strong. However, to remove his signs so that he remains invisible is not OK; it is a crime.
